Any LP Thorn Tree members here? Just curious to know where everyone went.

Did they close the Thorn Tree too? I didn't belong but visited on occasion. We love the Lonely Planet guides. Found some very quirky places to stay when we were younger. I think we aged out . . .

Welcome to TravellersPoint.

Welcome to TravellersPoint.

When Covid started they "froze" the Thorn Tree (no new posts but left it online as a resource). I believe after time they then took the whole thing down directing people to Social Media. No way Social Media can even start to provide anything even close. That's my understanding but I am open to being corrected.

I used to be an occasional poster answering things I happened to know about (not a lot in reality). I was not what I'd describe as a member of "the community" (too occasional to be noticed).

Yep, a former Thorn Tree member here. They pulled the plug for good last September; big loss for the international travel community, IMHO. I'll agree that LP's other social media outlets are poor substitutes, not that I use them. Anyway, I used that one primarily to assist with questions about some U.S. National Parks and Monuments I knew reasonably well, and for parts of Italy. Their multiple Asia forums were very active, as I recall, as well as Australia/New Zealand and Africa so I'm guessing its demise left a big hole.

What with travel picking up again, I wonder if they'll think the decision? Probably not but never say never!

Having haunted LP TT for years, it feels like I'm missing a limb. There was so much really good info there. Years ago, I even helped organize NYC Night outs for local and visiting TTers - they were so much fun! What do you think are the chances that a new forum will come to fill in the vacuum?
