It's a few years since I have been to Maputo. I didn't really like the city much. No reflection on Maputo, I just feel more at home in the hills. And I did manage to find some hills. The Swaziland border is not too far from Maputo - about 2 hours by bus even with stops at the villages along the way. The border runs along the Lebombo Mountains, and there was a lovely and tranquil place called the Shewula Mountain Camp literally just across the border.
If you tire of city life and want to spend a weekend 500m above worry level then it comes highly recommended.
