Hi All!
My name is Lydia and I'm a Postgrad student from the UK. At the end of my studies, I look to complete a 6 month trip to South America ending in March 2024. When I come back, I intend to work so more but think I could save up enough money to go on another trip around Oct/Nov of the same year. I estimate I'd have around £4000, and would love to explore somewhere new and cost-efficient (not South America, and probably not Europe). I'd also love to travel around and see as many spots as I can, whilst enjoying each place. Any ideas for trips?
For reference, I love a variety of trips: I completed the NC500 in 2021 (living in a car, rural Scotland) and loved the nature aspect, I enjoy beaches, and also love cities like Copenhagen and Florence. I don't mind something fresh and am really open to anything, as long as it's safe (solo female traveller) and cheap!
Thanks,
Lydia

Welcome to the forum.

Look into Southeast Asia. Cheaper than Europe, USA and Canada.
Thailand is popular with lots of solo travelers. (And family groups. couples, tour groups, all ages.) I have met "little old ladies" with big hats and sneakers visiting on their own many times. You do have to look into visa requirements for longer stays in this area. Thailand is an easy break-in country to start with.
Southeast Asia, especially Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Singapore maybe not so cheap.
Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia can be reached overland once in this area. Singapore can be reached overland from Malaysia. Philippines and Indonesia requires a flight.
Google search can be helpful. Your city library may have travel guides to look over. And there are hundreds of videos on the internet to check out.
Up to you.

Hi Lydia,
I’d also recommend Taiwan as a good destination for female solo travellers. I went there a few years back, and although it’s more expensive than some South East Asian countries I found it really easy to get around, and always felt very safe (although would recommend learning a little Mandarin on Duolingo or similar app as English not always that widely spoken).
Emma.

I agree with karazyal's SE Asia suggestion. However, I found Thailand the least interesting in SE Asia so I'd say focus on other countries (but include Thailand). Personally I found Burma the most interesting though probably not an option at the moment.

Besides Southeast Asia I'd suggest Nepal and India. I've traveled in both during October and November. It's a good time to visit, weather-wise, and for festivals. This October-November I'm spending six weeks in northeast India where I plan to visit the Nongkrem, Wangala and Hornbill festivals and hike in the easternmost region of the Himalayas. It's part of an 83-day trip that also will take me to Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii.

Will this include international flights?
After checking the cost of flights see how much you have each day for hotels, food, entertainment and other interests each day.
Different countries means different entry requirements. Some countries you may enter free, some you may have to have a departing flight, "Proof Of Onward Travel" just to leave home airport.
Research weather for any country you visit. Ex. For Thailand there is a rainy season, hot season and high season for prices (Although tourists do visit every day of the year!)
You might pull up your Foreign Office website for any possible danger warnings and other helpful information.
Have fun!
