Hi everyone,
I want to treat myself for my upcoming birthday by going on holidays for 10-15 days in January (I’m a single woman turning 40…)
I am used to travel alone and I did so throughout the world.
I would like to go somewhere with warm weather & sun. Not packed with tourists and touristy places (I don’t need my western breakfast, nor a sauna), but I would be very happy to eat in a nice restaurant with a view on the beach; and having some nice day hikes in beautiful nature/landscape. No big luxury or adventure, but something that is still quite authentic. Also, great food.
I had a few ideas in mind such as Cuba (or somewhere in the Caribbean), Cap Verde, Madagascar, somewhere in Asia (I have been recommended some less known islands in Thailand)…
But I’m still very undecided…so, I would love to hear your recommendations!
Thank you!

Hi.

Thailand has a lot of solo female travelers of all ages from school age to retirees. January is a popular time to visit because many Westerners wanting to avoid cold weather at home.

January is still high season for tourist arrivals although not as expensive closer to Christmas. So you cannot avoid other tourists choosing to avoid cold weather. There are some beach areas you can research but it would be a shame to avoid Bangkok and Chiang Mai. A proper visit to Thailand for many people is Bangkok, beach area good for the month you visit and northern Thailand, usually Chiang Mai area. You get beaches, history and some natural attractions.

  • If you are primarily interested in mostly beach time there are cheaper flights for places to visit nearer to your part of the world. Sample search below:

Up to you.

Hi karazal,

Thank you very much for your recommendation, Thailand seems to be a great candidate.
I have already been to Bangkok and, if I go, I'll try to avoid big cities this time.

Any advice on where/how to find nice accommodation? Looking for a nice little place with view on the sea or something like that.

My idea is to limit travelling time and to stay in maybe 2 different places and just enjoy the area.
I don't want to be on a beach all day long, but I like the proximity of the sea (I'm a diver), and being able to hike/walk in nature and enjoy beautiful landscapes.

I don't look for the cheapest option necessarily, but I'm also not crazy rich so something in between.

Thanks!

There is a lot of places with nice accommodation. But only you know how much you want to spend on a room each night. (If Thailand convert to Thai baht.) For me, I can find hotel rooms with A/C and private bath beginning 600-1000 baht depending on where. (Basic room, no pool, no gym, no meaningless butt kissing!) But if you need a place good for diving you may pay more.

Look into Koh Tao. (Never been here.) I don't mind cities!

Koh Chang is another suggestion. (Near Trat.) Only passed by from Trat a long time ago.

Up to you.

Good luck.
