Kind of depends on what you want to do. I think it is rainy season in Bali. But this does not mean tourists do not visit at this time of year. Unless you are from a nearby country my suggestion is stay 10 to 14 days to get your money's worth on an expensive plane ticket.

The passport you travel with will determine how you enter. (Google will give you info on your particular country.)

• Also look at Thailand. They have high season for the same time frame but January is not the rainy season.

I bet that would be a great time. I have a friend who's been several times and has nothing but good things to say about it. I don't see a problem going solo as long as you have everything pretty well mapped and planned out.
