Hello, i am 29 y. o. female traveler, about to start a trip to northern Thailand in a week, then maybe will turn to southern Thailand as well. Plans are flexible. Idea was to start in chiangmai. Main objectives are trekking, mountains, rivers, caves, etc. I am an evolutionary biologist, so nature is a preference

Pattaya is a regular experiment on its own! 
If Chiang Mai is important why not just head there? You would have to be very lucky to find a person to travel with you without any strings attached. In Chiang Mai there are shared tours you can sign up for in person. You may meet someone on a shared tour with similar goals.

chiangmai is a starting point i was intending to do basically what you told: book some shared tours, but apparently I’m not the only solo traveler going to the north of Thailand now, so I decided to try my luck here. Maybe someone is dreaming to finally beat covid memories out of them…
