My friend from Mexico is going to visit Ukraine soon and spend a week or two travelling in Ukraine. Due to the war there is no direct airpanes and he will first fly to Poland and after that go to Ukraine by train. I tried to search for information about required docs and could find different articles about it. Could you help me to find valid information about docs which he needs first for transit in Poland and crossing the Ukrainian border.

Ukraine is a country at war. Its resources are massively reduced and they're needed for its brave people. Your friend should think twice about using resources (food, fuel, electricity, medical treatment etc) which should be used by Ukrainian residents. Imo a country at war is really not a tourist option.

Does your friend have another reason for visiting? Maybe he wants to join the Ukrainian war effort (e.g. volunteering as a soldier, working in medical care)? Or does he want to visit e.g. 'friends' made online, make Tik-Tok content or some such?

Poland is part of the Schengen Area (26 countries). Even if he is taking a Poland >Ukraine flight and doesn't intend to stay in Poland your friend must formally enter the country just to collect his bags. As a Mexican citizen your friend will need a Schengen Visa.

Official info here:

https://visa.vfsglobal.com/blr/en/pol

Your friend will also need a visa to enter Ukraine. Official information here:

https://visa.mfa.gov.ua/visa/index

He will also need specialist health insurance which he must purchase before his visit, either from a Ukrainian provider or from a company with offices in Ukraine.

Your friend must have both visas and acceptable health insurance before he sets off on his trip. He won't be allowed to board a flight without the correct entry documentation.

Thank you for helping me. But I find many websites saying "Mexican people can stay in Shengen countries up to 90 days without any type of visa" or " If you are a Mexican citizen and traveling for a short trip to the Schengen Area you will not need a Schengen Visa.". I don't understand where is the truth

You are correct. My apologies

It's best to use official websites for all visa information. The links I gave above are the official websites.

"My friend from Mexico is going to visit Ukraine soon and spend a week or two travelling in Ukraine."

Did your "friend" explain why he needs to go to Ukraine?

"Could you help me to find valid information about docs which he needs first for transit in Poland and crossing the Ukrainian border."

Google search with your computer will give you links for tourist visits to Ukraine.

  • *Some of the links seem to be a means to sell insurance.

Verify if there is a Ukraine Embassy or Consulate somewhere in Mexico. Then it is a visit or phone call for information.

Good luck.
