When they're limp it's not easy to see if there's a moon and stars at the hoist. Indonesia it is - Tegalalang near Ubud?

You found the right country and island. But it's not Tegalalang.

True, there are a lot of amazing rice terraces in Bali. But when I praised some of them I often stood corrected: "The best are ........." They are usually mentioned together with the Subak irrigation system, on the UNESCO cultural heritage list.

The only place I have been in this area is Lombak, but I suppose that can't be it

No, it is the neighbouring island, Bali. Most visitors come to Lombok via Bali; you didn't?

More flooded fields

No I was on a cruise around Australia - the only place the cruise went other than Australia was Pulau Lombok. I took the cruise so that I could snorkel the Great Barrier Reef. It was in July (winter) and the cruise was mostly Australians some of whom I still am friends on FB with. Unfortunately for me, the cruise allowed Australians to get on the ship when they were sick with the flu and/or some of them lied and said they were not sick. It wasn't a big deal to them, but had no immunity to the Australian flu and I got sick just before we reached the Great Barrier Reef, so I could not go. I was very annoyed.

Still no better guesses.

The best rice terraces are in Jatiluwih village, Tabanan regency (according to Balinese I spoke
with).

The temple in the forest is Pura Luhur Batukaru, 10 km by car from Jatiluwih, or 6,5 km up- and downhill if you care to walk (according to OpenStreetMap).

As Borisborough came closest with Tegalalang, he should have the next turn.

Have we stalled? Should someone dive in and set a new one?
