Hello,
A few days ago I took screenshots of my map for a photo book project focused on my Scandanvian travels. At that time, the country names all showed up in English.

Yesterday I went back for a couple more screenshots and the country names are now in different languages. Norway shows as Norge. Sweden shows as Sverige. And on and on...

Can someone please help me get it back to English?

Thanks,

Aaron

The labels on the map come from the map tiles provider, which is a 3rd-party service which is used by Travellerspoint. For any map service, it's always a hard call which labels to use, but it seems the one here just switched over to using local names for everything. I don't know if they offer a way for Travellerspoint to influence that - that's something Peter (the admin) would need to research and if so, enable.

However, I see that you're a supporter, so you have access to different map styles: the styles "light", "dark", "outdoors" and "streets" currently still show English labels for everything, of which the "light" style is pretty similar to the "default" style (though imho a lot better, due to shading for mountain ranges, more detailed coastlines, e.a.), so that might be an option to switch to for now? You can pick a different style from your map, under the reddish "Change map style" icon.

Sander,
Thank you for that explanation. Hopefully Peter can fix it!

I did try the other styles, as I also like some better, but no luck on the names.

Thanks

We have 2 different suppliers of map tiles. Maptiler and Mapbox. The ones from Maptiler all have this issue now.

If you pick one of the ones from Mapbox (the ones Sander mentioned) you will find they do have names in English (eg Germany, not Deutschland)

I'll be in touch with Maptiler about this. It seems like a mistake on their end!

Following up on this.. I've changed the default map style to one that has the labels in English. I ended up creating a custom one for Travellerspoint that I have more control over.

There are still 2 map styles by Maptiler in the options (Voyager and Bright) that do have the place names in the local language. Avoid them if you want all the labels to be English.

Thanks so much for digging into that for me Peter! I really appreciate it.

No problem, thanks for alerting me to the problem. I hadn't noticed it until then and I think most people would prefer the English labels so it's good to have it fixed!
