It helps a lot when you report spam posts.

If the spammer has made multiple spam posts, consider also using the "report member" function. This pauses their ability to post, halting them in their tracks.

Lately there has been a pattern of spammers making half a dozen or more posts, and when the spam is reviewed the member is often unreported. In some cases this won't matter, as they will have dropped their payload and moved on. But I wonder if there are other times when leaving the account live leads to them dropping more later.

Agreed that reporting clear-cut spam accounts is useful. Still, in practice, I don't see old spam accounts returning for new spam runs. It helps that two reported threads is already enough to stop them from creating any new posts until those threads have been dealt with.

Most important with the current annoyance is to just keep on reporting swiftly (thanks to everyone who is doing so!), hiding the spam content from view. That should in time mean that we are removed as a target for this particular spam run. Though I've also been lobbying with Peter to add some particular keywords to the blacklist.

I've added some phrases to the blacklist today. Thanks for the lobbying Sander :) I've also changed its behaviour. Instead of presenting a warning to the user, giving them an opportunity to work around it, it will flag that post immediately.
