So, do you lose or gain weight while on a trip or stay the same? Eat to much of that foriegn food?
gain weight on trip?
I usually gain about five pounds on a trip. But I'll easily lose those extra pounds after I return home, when I go back to my usual diet and regular exercise. I eat what I want while traveling to experience what each country or region has to offer. But gaining weight isn't only the result of extra calories consumed. It's also related to a reduction in the amount and intensity of physical activity. At home I spend 10 to 12 hours each week on strength training and intense cardio, something I find difficult to replicate while on the road.
I usually gain 5 or 10 lbs on a trip and lose it when I get home because the food I eat has more salt in it that I get at home. Once I am eating less salt the weight comes off. This is a problem with a lot of older ladies I know.
I am also more active when I travel than when I am at home so the extra calories aren't really a problem. (At home I spend most of my time in bed working on the computer)
Oddly, I usually lose 10 to 12 pounds on a trip. Our trips are usually a month long.
We do a lot more walking on vacation than we do at home and I have always been suspicious of all the food additives that are allowed in the USA. I usually eat a lot more on trips than I do at home and I nearly always eat dessert on trips. I'm pretty careful about what I eat at home and hardly ever eat dessert. We don't eat at restaurants at home but we do buy our food in the grocery store so if there are additives in the ingredients, there is no way to get rid of them.
It's always seemed odd that I lose weight when I'm eating more . . . and enjoying it more! We do walk every day at home, but on trips we walk nearly constantly so that may be the secret.
Enjoying the local food is a must for me! I figure a little weight gain is a small price to pay for those delicious memories.
Usually I lose weight on trips, the main factor being that I walk much more than in my usual life.

Likewise.
When on a cycling trip (which is always with camping gear, etc.) I'll be losing lots (last 1 month trip lost 3Kg).
On a "travel" trip (normally several months) I'll lose a few Kg.
It actually worries me and I try to eat vast amounts as I'm already underweight so really can't afford to lose more weight.
I also put it down to walking far more. I tend to set my phone to record my walk track so if the camera geotagging doesn't work properly I can put photos and track into Adobe Lightroom and it will correctly location tag the photos. So I also know I'll typically be walking 10 miles a day.
