Star this if you like it!
Hi,
Been lurking for a while and decided to join to share ideas and hopefully support as well.
I am in my 60s and struggle with fatigue, so have to pace myself when travelling.
For my 70th next year, we would like to take in the east coast of Canada, taking in Nova Scotia, St Edward Island, Quebec and possibly Montreal.
We have about 16 days, initial plan is to fly into Halifax from the UK.
With the distances between destinations being so great compared to the UK, I will struggle with constant driving. I'm looking to create a plan to allow us to take in the key attractions that will allow for rest time.
Is it possible to join escorted trips from Halifax and St Edward Island, any recommendations?
Looked at the train to get us to Quebec and beyond, do these makes stops on the way so we can rejoin later?
If we had to leave out one city, which you decide to visit from an overall interest point of view?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Chris

I have not done this, but there is a cruise In August that goes from Boston to St John NB - spends a day there and then goes to Halifax, Sydney, Charlottetown, Saguenay and Quebec. There is a land tour from Quebec to Montreal, and then to Montebello, Ottawa and Toronto.
You might be able to book part of this if you didn't want to enter the US - fly into Halifax and pick up the cruise there, and then get off the tour part in Montreal. That would be about 8 days. You wouldn't get to NB if you did that.
There ARE just plain tours of that region. There is a very nice 8 day tour that goes from Halifax on August 31st - does 2 days on Prince Edward Island, 2 days in New Brunswick, and the rest of the time in Halifax. It is an Adventures by Disney tour but it is Adults Only.
There is also apparently something called a Rail’s The Ocean train which is "ideal for visiting Québec and Atlantic Canada. Guests will experience the mighty St. Lawrence River, the Matapedia Valley and Bay de Chaleur as well as the landscape of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Travel in superior comfort in Sleeper Plus class. Large windows let you admire passing landscapes. The Dining Car will charm you with its maritime ambiance, elegant table settings, and refined service for breakfast and a 3-course dinner (offered seasonally). Passengers aboard The Ocean train enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi service in the cars adjacent to the dining car."
I found it as a part of Wonders of the Maritimes & Scenic Cape Breton with Ocean Train to Montreal 2025 which is a 12 day Globus tour that runs from June to September.
I know you might ideally want to travel independently. But now that I have limited energy I have to take opportunities that let me rely on others to make the arrangements.

Good - I am not a travel agent, but I get my information from a website called Vacations to Go.

Nova Scotia
Halifax has a hop on hop off bus - take that.
Drive around Cape Breton, Cabot Trail.
Go to Lunenburg, Peggy's Cove, the Annapolis Valley and Digby. Check to see if Jimmy Rankin is performing anywhere and if he is try to see his show. Nova Scotia is really beautiful.
New Brunswick - see the Hopewell Rocks
Prince Edward Island - Anne of Green Gables, Charlottown.
Time permitting go to Quebec City.
Or better yet, time permitting go to Newfoundland.

Hopewell Rocks are close to Moncton. We stayed at Shepody Bay Inn and the breakfasts were great. In Moncton Magnetic Hill is worth a visit. ( I would choose Hopewell Rocks over St John )
Near Charlottown is Cavendish, a very pretty area. (It is the setting for the book - close to red sand beaches).
Have a wonderful trip. The people are lovely and friendly.
