Well I just put a down payment on a new place today. Come September I am moving out of my tiny apartment into a slightly less tiny apartment with my girlfriend. *sigh* It's going to be great because it will be the first time that either one of us will live with a partner, and I love her very much. But.... it means that I will have this same job for another year, I will be living in this same town for another year. I will be in my usual, day-to-day, humdrum environment for another 12 months.

But atleast it will keep my feet on the ground for a bit so I can finish school. (Usually I have my head in the clouds, dreaming of "chucking" it all and flying off into the sunset) On another good note, it will give me more time to save money and to plan my trip.

I know I will be leaving eventually, but as of right now my departure seems so unatainable. Is there anyone else out there in a similar position?

Congratulations on moving in with your girl, Evan, good luck with the new place..

Hang in there on the travels, you'll get there & you just have to travel with the TP'ers in the meantime

I've been in the same situation, my boyfriend and I signed a year lease last Sept with the intention of saving and then going travelling this Sept, we were so depressed about getting caught here for another year that we planned a month in Egypt , a few weekend trips around Ireland (decided to explore here a bit more), a week in Istanbul and a few visits back to the Netherlands to visit his family but now we have collected a lot more possesions and need a bigger place, there are not many short term leases here so we will have to probably sign another lease, (aghhhhh) also because we kept doing little trips we haven't saved as much as we should have so we can't leave directly.....

A year will fly by but if you want to go travelling at the end of it then set yourselves a target and go for it !!!

ps: congrats on moving in together and have a great time ......

hey evan,

congratulations on moving in with your girlfriend, i wish both of you the best. if you've got itchy feet plan some trips just around your city/town- there's often so many things to explore that you've just never taken notice of. i often think about beautiful scenes in my own city- i'd never take pictures of them here, but if it was paris or new york i'd take the photos and display them proudly.

good luck for the future and your travels,

Soliqa and Raven,
Thank you both for the advice! I think I will plan a few small weekend trips around our 'local' area. Maybe we'll head over to the west coast for a weekend, or perhaps down to the Keys. Thank you again for the advice!

So you reckon a lease is bad, try signing a mortgage and see how your travel plans disappear!
