Hi all- I know this is quite the broad question, but I am trying to plan a two or three night vacation at the end of August for my family (me, wife, two young children- 8 and 4). We want to drive and are willing to drive really anywhere in around a 4-5 hour radius from central Jersey. We’re sick of the Lancaster / Hershey Park area, the Poconos, and the Delaware beaches. Please feel free to throw out literally any ideas. Mountain areas, beaches, we are open to anything. Maybe something will seem perfect. Mainly focused on having enough fun stuff for the kids, but don’t want to just be going to amusement parks the whole time. Thank you!

How about a return trip to one of the other places you asked about?

Have fun.

In 3.5 hours you could get up to CT to Mystic Seaport or all the way to Block Island

Or going south you could visit Beltimore, D.C. or Solomon's Island which has a nice museum and there are beaches and it is close enough to St. Mary's county tht you could visit areas there too.

It is a little farther to Deep Creek Lake (depending on where you are in Central Jersey

Virginia Beach, according to Google, is supposed to be okay at the end of August. Using the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel might be interesting for little kids. When I used that tunnel-bridge route there used to a place to stop and check out the view. Probably an hour more driving than your wish list

(For me, many years have passed since driving this route up and down the east coast.)

  • Lucky kids, when I was that age I had to settle for being sprayed by a garden hose in the back yard.

Up to you,
