Trouble with Destinations Not Showing Up when Typed

I had messaged about this before, but while municipalities and natural locations like state and national parks are showing up, more specific destinations or locations, like resturants, hotels, train stations or museums, don't seem to be showing up. For example, I could put the name of the town I am visting, but when asking for a specific destination in the town/city because I plan on visting multiple, that doesn't seem to show up. This was particularly the case in Ireland and I don't know if that's the case in the US or Canada due to the size difference and popularity

Peter just switched to a new way of getting destination suggestions - partly due to your earlier thread. It's - I think - noticeably better for towns, national parks, etc - but indeed, points of interest within a city are barely present in this new dataset. Most people who use the maps don't go more in depth than city level, so that tradeoff feels correct to me, but definitely an area for improvement. Just finding a good source for points of interest will be hard.

I can access them, but it's a significant bump up in the scale of the number of items in the database. It goes from ~4 million ish locations in the database to more like 50 million points of interest. And another level past that is address level search.

What I could look at is falling back to 3rd party address level search when I don't have enough results from our own dataset. I'll give that a try - it may be acceptable for those deeper searches.

Looking at your map, you're requesting accommodation results as well. I hadn't expected that to be used as much as it apparently is, so good that you're asking about it.

Peter already said above that he'd look into adding this back (which he hasn't done yet, but I'd expect that to happen in the next few days), but I'm replying so he'll see that it's specifically accommodation results which are in demand, as I'm not completely certain if that'd automatically be included with the address level search which he was talking about.

Alright, I've made an update that hopefully gets the best of both worlds. Quick, complete results for towns, cities, national parks, etc. and a fallback to the old system when there are insufficient results which means that if you are searching for a hotel you should be able to find it.

Please give it another shot and hopefully it gives better results!
