I'm not a young man anymore, and have travelled east of UK many times, the farthest being India, but mainly Europe.
I'm now thinking of going to warmer places for the UK winter, and want to know if there's anyone going anywhere interesting, that may be interested in meeting.

I think your best bet for a companion is probably back home. Perhaps a neighbor or someone you worked with or a person you come in casual contact with every now and then.
Years ago, after early retirement, before the internet became popular and more useful for business, I had courier type job carrying documents overseas. Free flight, free hotel, usually 7-10 days. Made several trips to Thailand this way. But this job did not last that long, however, it was a good intro for me for solo travel. I did notice quite a few solo males and female travelers, of all ages, visiting Thailand.
Bangkok probably cheaper than London. Hotels in all price ranges. If kids on summer breaks can afford a few weeks there most "mature" travelers should do okay on their own. Very easy to get day tours in person. (Many hotels and small local travel agencies offer day tours.) There are many of these travel agencies offering tours. You walk in look over what they have and pick one out. You get picked up at your hotel and brought back when the tour is complete. You in a van with other tourists. You might meet someone to kick around with.
If swimming and diving is on the list of things to do, you would have to go to one of the many beach areas best for the month you visit. Tourists visit every day of the year, even rainy season. Off peak season hotels and flights are cheaper.
Thailand is an easy country to do on your own. Round Trip to Bangkok, from there up to you. Bangkok is well served with cheap city rail service. Also, 2 airports available. Thailand might be bigger than you think, look up a map. Long distance bus and rail service available, plus short commuter flights.
