Hey all, I am just carrying out some research into where people come to visit in the UK other than London. I am thinking of opening up a hostel with a friend and we wanted to know where people who were coming from outside of the UK would consdier major toursit destinations? Would you want to see more than just london, or is usually ur only stop? What makes u decide to go some where else?
Any responses would be most appreciated
Nicola

Bath, Brighton or Oxford, I reckon are places of interest to tourists.
Otherwise what about looking into a hostel in the Peak District, Lake Distrcit or the Beacons for climbers, hikers and mountain bikers? There is always need for more of them!

In no particular order....
Bath
Rye
Brighton
Cirencester
Avebury
Major factor in going elsewhere in the UK rather than London relates to the transport factor. If I was you, I'd pick any major area within an hour or so of London by train.

Hmmmm, the only person to recommend anywhere outside of the south of England was from the UK!
I have a problem with people not realising that England extends more than 100 miles north of the south coast!
It seems to me that the UK is viewed as London joined to Scotland by a long boring motorway. I feel a crusade coming on!

Stratford upon Avon is always a favourite with the tourists, home of Shakespeare etc. York is another very popular destination. I think outside of London, you would have to look at those 2 plus, as already mentioned, Oxford and Edinburgh.

Thanks for all the info. We were thinking of doing one in stratford, as there are only 2 hostels there, but we werent sure whether people would be interested in visiting there or not. I think well have to look into it a bit more, but that it is a real possibility/
