Hi all,
Myself and my girlfriend will be in new zealand from the 12th to the 30th of December (going to sydney for new years). Anyone have any ideas where to stay around christmas eve and christmas day? We are flying out of auckland on the 30th so maybe somewhere in the north island would suit us better.
Anyone know of any good hostels where there will be a bit of craic (we're Irish by the way). Really just want somewhere livly to be and have a differnet kind of christmas this year.

Bay of Islands, Coromandel, Raglan, Taupo, Northland are all close enough to Auckland to spend Christmas in & have great beaches or in Taupo's case a lake Even Napier/Hawkes Bay which is a wine growing area.. Enjoy it where ever you are!

You could try Waipu or Opononi, both lovely places, or for something more remote head to North Hokianga and stay at Mitimiti. Pawarenga which is quite close to Mitimiti has a new years day horse racing on the beach, where locals bring their ponies and horses to race on teh beach, lots of fun and lots of other games, well worth going to, you will feel like the early settlers did when they first came to nz, as the population on the day is about ninety percent Maori
