I am planning to travel South America for 3 month. What budget will I need if I stay in hostels, have normal meals and travel mainly on busses?

Hi, I'm from Peru, have lived there a lot, but have also travelled quite a bit. I actually just spent my gap year there and I can tell you that with 2000 dollars you will be More than dandy and will probably have a Lot of extra money. I think I made it the whole 11 months on 2000 dollars....so in three months you will be able to live like a queen. Transportation is so cheap, meals are amazing....go to vegetarian restaurants because the food is hygenic and actually tastes very very good. Why do i say this? most foreigners get terribly sick from eating something that they've never eaten before. Vegetarian restaurants in South America are very aware of this...so they cook the typical food from the place .....but it is very unlikely that you will have stomach trouble. Anyways....food....even the best..is cheap. What do I mean? 3.3 soles is about 1 dollar. You can have a menu in a vegetarian restaurant for 6 soles. What is a menu? Soup, salad, a main dish, dessert and tea or water to drink. And the portions are quite good. It is heaven. You could barely eat a piece of bad pizza in the U.S. for that. If you go to Lima make sure to visit this address: Calle Piura 135, Miraflores, Lima Peru, they always have very good information for people there. While in Peru, travel in Ormeno or the most expensive bus company you can find. Yes, you heard it, your life is actually worth more than a few bucks off. And really...even the most expensive line will only be about 10 to 15 soles more..which is nothing.

Have a great three months,
