Travel Forums General Talk starting an internet travel business

Hi there,

I love to travel, and particularly love Germany and Benelux, and all those places that Brits do not generally go as their first choice.

I've bought some good domain names, and wish to start a website about Berlin first of all. I want to put reviews and tips on the site, but I have no training in business, and am not sure how I can make the site pay for itself, or how I can make a success of things.

This MUST be a good time to open a site about Berlin given that the world cup is being held in Germany in 2006, so done properly I don't think I would lose any money really - but how can I make some?

Can money really be made from affiliates or is that a waste of time? What about generating traffic and then selling advertising to travel businesses - does that work? Or is it cheeky, as I have seen other sites do, to ask for donations to support the site? I am also new to google adwords...does anyone have any tips for creating a large exposure for low cost.

Also, if there are any big big fans of Berlin out there, I would love to hear from you and know what you would like me to put on the site, or hear what you would recommend to others if you have the choice.

Also, get in touch with me if you have a travel business that you would like to advertise.

Thanks for your time,

it's a little too late for 2006 world cup - it takes a lot of time to position your site at the top of the search engines to get some traffic moving in

I agree with massager, you're already too late. Plus, you're going to be competing with some big boys in terms of bookings and that kind of things just because it's the WC as well and they've been at it a lot longer already.

If you're making a site, you should do it because you like what you're doing and find it interesting and not with your pre-requisite being that you will make money off of it. Most sites don't make money namely. Of course if you have a brilliant idea that no one else has, it might be different...
