I am planning a trip to Thailand next year. It is going to be sometime between Arpil - June.

I am trying to decide if I want to spend time seeing the Phuket / Phi Phi / Krabi area or the Samui / Phan Ngan / Tao area? I want to see and swim on beautiful beaches, and probably spend a few nights partying.

Any suggestions???

Hit the gulf of Thailand, ko phanang is awsome and you will meet a lot of backpackers, a great place if your looking to party. Ko Samui is cool but lots of tourist. And ko Tao is great for diving and I highly recomend it.

I'm just home from Thailand and it was fab! We spent 5 nights in Phuket, did a boat trip round Phi Phi (well worth doing, it's gorgeous and needs the tourism after the tsunami) Stayed in Karon Beach while in Phuket, Patong is much busier but has a good night life.

Koh Samui is very touristy, if I was doing the trip again, I'd spend more time in Koh Pha Ngan, we were there for the full moon party, it was brilliant. We had a bungalow on the beach and didn't even wear shoes when we went out at night, it was brilliant.

I've heard the diving in Koh Tao is good, we didn't go unfortnately.

Hope that helps, if you want to know anything else, just message me.

Hi if you've got the chance I would recommend both.

If you're looking for a less commercial side of things then I would say miss out Ko Samui. Although you can fly there from Bangkok to get a boat to Ko Phangan which saves on a long bus journey.

Ko Phangan is great, there are a number of beaches ranging from Haadrin - where the full moon party is & busy, to others which are more laid back, but still have a few bars & restaurants. It really depends what you're looking for. Ko Tao is great also although very 'dive' orientated. We went & didn't have any accommodation booked as we weren't diving & with a dive school. We did get accommodation, but it was difficult & cost a bit more than we'd bargained for. However there are some great bars there & a chance to go to Shark Bay, where you can snorkel & see the odd shark - if you're brave enough!

Krabi is amazing, the scenery is really out of this world with the limestone cliff formations. I would suggest going to Phi phi, we were there a few yrs ago, so I don't know how it is after the Tsunami, but the one thing I remember is the water & the snorkelling, the water was turquoise & the fish were amazing. The boat trip on the way there is also great as you get to see these amazing cliffs jutting out of the sea.

From Krabi itself, you can do numerous boat trips to nearby bays & islands.

It really depends on what sort of holiday you're looking for, if you want the kind of holiday were you meet up with like-minded backpackers & parties, then I'd suggest head towards Ko Phangan & Ko Tao, then maybe if you've got time, spend 3 or 4 days in the Krabi area just to see it.

Hope this is useful, if I can be of any other help, then please get in touch.

i went to a really beautiful island called Ko Maak.... It is very small... Imagine walking to the other side of the island in ten mins... :) Its very calm and you can just relax and get a good sunbath in the day... The beach is yours!

There are only 70 plus locals there and was almost deserted. Just 6 tourist total in our side and the other at the time i was there....
I went in June.. so it got hit by a bad storm, but otherwise the season your going will be wonderful...

Its located near Ko Chang, Trat Province... Plus, you can island hop to much more private islands.... :p
