I'm trying to get a feel on what's like to travel in Costa Rica
during Christmas. I understand many places will be closed. Is it
possible to get a private local guide? What about public transport?
Are they running?

Hi there!

I travelled in CR a few years ago around Christmas and while there is some stuff closed, we didn't have any problems. Then again, the actual days of Christmas we didn't do much, but the days around it we did without problems. I would recommend trying to book something in advance for days around Christmas though when it comes to tours and accommodation (if possible). Especially if you are going to popular tourist destinations. Public transport was fine for us (2 days before/after Christmas)....

Hope that helps!

Hi Iliu,
I also will be in Costa Rica for christmas and the friend I´m visiting said life at chrismas is like in any other country. Public transport runs less frequently on christmas day and boxing day, but you still get around. I second Sam´s advice booking a private guide in advance just to be on the safe side.
