Reece and Jackboy - Yes I do have a hostel in Norfolk and would be very happy to give you some information on the county. Reece you are being very harsh. The county is a wonderful place with far more than visitors would imagine and most locals don't know anything about the place. However it is a county where those without any get up and go get bored because you have to go and do things, they don't come to you. Our hostel wouldn't be so busy if there wasn't so much to do. Have you tried the watersports? Kite surfing and sailing are massive along the coast, there's great cycling and walking.

The reason I asked whether anyone had visited was to find out further great places. I'll certainly give quite a few bits and pieces on here, especially if anyone has questions about the county.

PS if you fancy some info on the county then here are a few useful websites:

I worked up in Norfolk for 2 months during the summer and coming from Australia, I found the place rather boring. Although the english think that the beaches in the area are nice, i couldnt find a reason as to why ....ugly as if you ask me! anyway cant really suggest much to do as there isnt that much as far as im concerned.....just my opinion though.

Hi Chalkers

Great shame you didn't enjoy your two months, where did you work?

Did you visit Holkham beach? I know Australians are very proud of their beaches, and rightly so, but Norfolk has some stunning beaches and Holkham is probably one of our finest. (We also don't have quite so many dangerous creatures trying to bite or sting you) It does depend on whether you go at high or low tide as the water will go out miles and the whole area will change. You can walk up to the top of Gun Hill, a large sand hill and see the curve the bay. The beach is completely sand with pinewoods behind it. For more information visit

Maybe you'll return to Norfolk as a visitor rather than for work and then you'll be able to enjoy it more. Alternatively you could always come and work for us at our backpackers hostel - Deepdale Backpackers

good beaches in norfolk hahahaha oh yeah most are either covered in glass or dog s**t,hmm s**t thats just like the whole sea.
And for the record i know alot about the county after spending erm what 32 years there.
Yes ive cycled more miles around Norfolk than alot of people and as for running i was a member of Thetford Athletic Club so ive spend many hours running in the forest and at other races in norfolk but hey you can run anywhere besides norfolk.
Just those few things to do hardly make it a fantastic place to visit.

Reece, I would love to know what makes you so bitter about Norfolk. Your views of the place come from somewhere very dark and its a great shame. I don't think I've ever seen glass on a beach. Ok, so you don't like the county, no problem. I start this topic to find out why you don't like it, I asked to find out peoples recommendations.

Bearing in mind that tourism is Norfolks biggest industry a lot of people come here and love the place, coming back and back and back. If you have nothing positive to say on the county then fine, but most of the forums on here aren't about people having a rant, they are about sharing recommendations so that others can enjoy those places too.

I'm sorry you don't like Norfolk, a rural county isn't for everyone. Hope you enjoy the places you do travel to and that you find what excites you.
