What's your favorite music to hike to? I love listening to Neil Young on my hikes.
Hiking music?
Hiking? In southern Florida?! No no no such a thing does not exist. But if it did I would listen to the Gattaca soundtrack by Michael Nyman. Sooooo moody. Sooooo good!
This is not a hiking crowd - okay, I mean I'm not a hiking crowd -but if I hiked... It would be Steely Dan and... Oh hell, the list is endless... Sorry!!

I love soundtracks, specially Hans Zimmer, but Ennio Morricone, Howard Short and Vangelis are ok too.

I would have to say the same as Isa, if I hiked (which I don't) I would listen to something with a steady, upbeat beat. Maybe Manu Chao..
this is basically a 'what do you like to listen to' post.
nothin wrong with that though, actually, a good idea!
i like everything, but... for active stuff,
Small Brown Bike
Mogwai
Dropkick Murphys
Modest Mouse
Boys night out
Explosions in the sky
Aquabats
Edna's goldfish
Nothing plural
Bouncing Souls
against me!
John Butler trio
Thursday
green day
in no particular order.. but thats not even close to all the music i like. got diverse tastes, i do. thats just *some* good motivating music.
when hiking, I don't like to listen to "extra" music, since for me the surrounding sounds are part of the hiking experience (like the wind, the river, the birds singing)...
otherwise there is music for all kinds of moods and occasion, but like Isa, my list is too long.
on southern island of new zealand you can go hicking over boardwalks! The hicke is days on end and so i could not get OVER the boardwalk out of my head!!!!!!! (did not have funky ipod with me)
grrrrrr very good idear to sort music out before you go.
If you like fast walking: rage against the machine
I just did the hike up to Kuelap near Chachapoyas in Peru. Only 5 hours but probobally the hardest hike I have done, in the swealtering heat with NO shade. I wouldn't have got through it if it wasn't for Aphex Twin giving me a beat to march too.
Also like listening to "mood music" Sigur Ros is good and Nhitin Sawney.
Pretty much any music is good if you like it :-) I agree that it is imporant to turn it off ocasonally though and listen to the silence.
I jusst hiked from my house to the train station; a good 8 minutes at a brisk pace. I was listening to the birds in the trees.
