I am planning a trip, either in March or June, to Moscow,St Petersburg and then head for Rome - ex-BKK. I am looking at Aeroflot. The price quoted round trip ( ex-BKK) is about USD660. Anyone had idea of better rates? I plan to spend about 10 days in Russia, and another 15 days in Italy- may be more. Some useful info on places to see, accommodation, etc will be most helpful.

Thanks, guys!

Ancient history, but I flew BKK to Moscow and onto London with Aeroflot in late April 1984. The aircraft (Ilyushin I think) was an absolute piece of junk and these flights were the first time (I had already flown many times before in commercial jets, helicopters and even DC3's)that I totally feared for my life.
I had bought an el-cheapo ticket in Pattaya for my flight to London, and now regret it because that Aeroflot ticket turned me from being a very relaxed flyer to a reasonably anxious flyer when in bad weather or turbulence.
Going over the Hindu Kush and that Aeroflop plane was going up and down, side to side and yawing something chronic.
I don't know what Aeroflot fly these days, but I think I'd rather fly Thai to Moscow and Alitalia to Rome.
Not much point saving $200 if you end up tottaled in some paddock in Moustachistan.

Best hostel in Rome to stay at is Yellow Hostel, obly 4 blocks from the main train station, Termini, a nights stay is about 23 dollars, great helpfull staff, great location, great tours and pub crawls offered through hostel, voted 5th best hostel in the world by hostelworld.com this year. I can answer any questions you got about Rome, I have taken 5 trips there in the past two years as its my favorite place.
