If your just going for two weeks or so id say no as you only save a few bucks a night if you stay at a hostel that gives you a discount with it. but on the other hand, you can use your card other places as well that may save you even more, i know you can use it at some of the currency exchange places in the airports and they wave the fee for you. be worth checking out.

In New Zealand and Australia, getting a membership works out as cheaper if you stay ten nights or more in YHA (HI) hostels. I don't know if the discount in Europe is similar, but I'd assume so.

Allot of the hostels in Europe are non HI ones, so unless you ares spending all your time in HI ones (and book ahead as hosels can fill out) in a couple of weeks it may not be worth it. It might, but may not. In some places it is - some of the Japanese hostels have such wide differences in member/non member prices that you can save the money in 2 or 3 nights. Europe i think is 6 ((because after 6 stamps at hostels, you get free membership for the year))
