Travel Forums Introductions Returning from backpacking

Hi All

I'm Jackie and have just returned from my first backpacking trip...Costa Rica, New Zealand, Australia, Bali and Thailand for 11 months.

After seeing leatherback turtles nesting, learning to dive on the Great Barrier Reef, swimming with dolphins in new zealand, volunteering at an elephant rescue park in Thailand, etc, etc. Can anybody give any tips on how to settle back once at home (apart from travelling again)?!

The first 2 weeks were wonderful, a proper bath, no washing pants in the sink, catching up with everyone...then reality kicks in and you realise nothing has changed and everyone is busy with their own lives and it's rather cold!!!

Love Jackie

The most terrible part of travelling for me is coming home (except offcourse of seeing your friends/family again), especially after such a long trip (you will come over it when you have planned your next trip...hahaha)!!! But anyway feel welcome to travellerspoint, cheers

Hey Jackie,

Know exactly how you feel. I recently returned home from spending 13 months travelling through SE Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South America and coming home is so hard!

I really miss the freedom of traveling and not having to worry about stupid mundane everyday things. I really miss spending time outside and seeing new things and meeting new people.

The others are right, the best way to get through is to plan your next trip and if you know that won't be for a while maybe just take a weekend away in Europe somewhere just to get away for a while and get that feeling back of exploring something new. There are plenty of cheap deals out there.

Good luck
