Brian,

Am planning on doing the trail in March (between the 13th-24th) as well....haven't booked with an agency at this point. Thinking about going with Andean Life. Have you booked/found an agency yet? Let me know if you've found a better/cheaper alternative or are traveling simular dates....

Cheers,

Brock

Hey guys

Just remember that they're cleaning the incatrail february and march every year. Keep that in min d when you're ordering your trips. Not all of the agencies is reliable.

Have a great trip.

I thought it was only closed in Feb? Thats what the lonely planet guide books say but tht could be wrong. Im planning on going at the beginning of April as part of an overland tour.

You're right that the Lonely Planet says that. Just secure before you order your trip the Lonely Planet is right. I've tried several cases were Lonely Planet was wrong.
Write an email to one of the agencies and ask them.
Anyway March and April is low season, so wait order your trip until you're in Cuzco, i found out that it was a cheaper way to do it.

Hope you gonna have a great trip

Kim

It's low season because is still rainy. Don't know if it's officially closed, but if it's open it can be very difficult to do it, lot of mud. It can be risky.

yeh thats slightly worrying. Is it really that rainy?

I don't know the exact rain strongness within the trail. In general, mountains are low season because it rains almost every afternoon, but when it's sunny it's beautiful because it is very green. During hi season is very dry so landscape are yellower or browner..

but the real problem is that it keeps too much water on the top of mountains, forming lagoons that overflow frequently producing landslides full of mug and rocks, interrupting roads, rivers, destroying farms, etc..

Hi all

I think that in March will be not problem, but you can monitoring the avaibility here http://www.inc-cusco.gob.pe/DescInfo.php?IdIO=276&IdOp=276&cb=C it is in spanish, click in "sistema de reserve rci" in the left and then click on a arrow and choose " disponibilidade diaria" after that choose the month and you will see all avaibility per day.

I was there in july/august 2005. If you decide to make the reservation then you need to find authorized agent. I make the reservation with Marisol, she is nice and has a good price, her e-mail is [email protected].

good trip the place is unforgetable.
