Hello Pennym:)

When I was in Iran last October there was talk about the Iranian Pakistani border being closed so u would have to check that out if u intend to travel overland that route.
Here is a thread about Pakistan that somebody else started. It may have useful information for u. Also pay particular attention to the news about Pakistan at the moment.

I think u will find Iran relatively safe to travel accross. If u adapt the Islamic dress and behaviour code while u are there u are unlikely to have problems with police or people in Iran.

I dont know exactly about Turkey but check the current safety situation at the Iranian Turkish border. The Iranian government say they are going to pour money into border security for Iran. I dont know exactly what that will involve.

As the site rules don't allow businesses to promote themselves (part of our zero tolerance approach to spam) that's right you won't find travel agent listings here.

What you will find are a lot of knowledgeable independent travellers who help each other remove the need for travel agents.

It's definitely possible to do it yourself. A few years ago (2010?) we booked accommodation on Trip Advisor (you can now do this through TravellersPoint) and then cited the accommodations to get our Pakistan visas in our UK passports. I'm sure you'll be able to find flights into Pakistan, possibly via a third country. We flew into Kathmandu and travelled overland through India and into Lahore. The Wagah border ceremony is well worth seeing.

We traveled Iran for 4 weeks, 2 years ago. We really loved the country and felt absolutely safe. Biggest danger is overeating by getting invited by the friendly locals!

But be sure to start your visa procedure in time as it took us 5-6 weeks to get it!

A friend rode his motorbike across Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and into India a few years back.
He said that although the Iran Visa was too short (time-wise) so he had to keep moving quite quickly through the country, and it was difficult to get, it was an awesome place where everyone wanted to feed him and rarely wanted any remuneration.
He also said that some of the women were stunningly beautiful, but 'off limits' due to the society... :)

However Getting into west Pakistan was very difficult (lots of discussion about which boarder controls are open and which are not) and I think the police insisted he ride in a convoy under police armed protection (I can't remember if there was a fee) which meant it was extremely slow going as they could only move as fast as the slowest vehicle. Initially he thought it was a waste of time but when they heard gunfire he quickly realised that it wasn't a bad idea after all...

Coincidentally I've just come cross this where he's planning part of that journey; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRecxjc-AAA
