HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL..And best wishes in your 2006 travels

O.k..I need a little advice. I have everything booked for my trip to Bangkok and Ko Samui, except for a place to stay on the island.

I've looked into some places so far like the Oriental Samui resort , Nara garden resort and Chalee resort on Big Buddha beach.. Perhaps if you know of these places you could offer some insight into the quality and safety of the rooms as well as the standard of the beaches...Any advice is always helpful of course..

P.S I haven't actually booked anything on the island and my trip is only a few days away...with the full moon party at hand will there be a chance to find decent accomodation on Big Buddha beach close to the ferry

Thanks again and all the best.

I just got back from southern islands in thailand and was there for new years and it wasn't that bad to get a room once you are there and you are going when it is less crowded then new years...The best places to stay are on Chaweng beach in the more north part of the beach (kind of by the McDondals), it is more lively and much more going on...If you want a little quieter, stay in the south part of Chaweng or in Lamai, which is about 10 minutes drive south of Chaweng. We stayed at First Bungalow Resort in south Chaweng and then Chaweng Resort...I do not know what your budget is, but they were around 2000-3000 Baht per night and pretty damn nice with breakfast and their own beaches, not too expensive if you are sharing with someone, especially coming with American or Canadian Dollars.

Good Luck and feel free to ask me any questions.

Hi, i was there last year and stayed in chaweng, we stayed in a place called coconut grove on chaweng beach, it was really nice, safe and pretty cheap. I wouldn't stress about finding somewhere to stay cause there are loads of places in chaweng, don't stay in barracuda though cause you'll get broken into!! Lamaii is a couple of miles away, its nice but chaweng is more lively!! You'll have a great time. Its really easy to get to phangan from samui for the full moon party too, there be loads of places advertising boats etc. Best of luck!!
