hi friends
read before plannig to tour india
india is such country where you must plan your trip in is hard and complex to plan your itineary after you arrive.
If you are travelling by packaged tour with fixed itinearary and schedul, you must read and think about every brochures.
Distances are huge, travelling is very hars and tiring and sight seeing is also very much tiring. You must have days for compleat relaxation, in beach resort or in a hill station. At least one fullday in every week travelling.
It is entirely possible to make your own arrangement for a tour of
india, but you have to get hotel reservation from a tourist agent. If you want free travelling than tourist agents are must better.
but you must have to say every aspect of your tour you must tell every thing
about hotels
places you want to see
what type of tour you want

In planning tour of india you must select one base city. You must know the attraction between key cities.
you can get some good and useful informations form different books and India mike is also a good sourse of information

what your tour will cost
this is the most hard question to answer in advance. Budgeting is much simplified if you take a prepackaged trip. Air, train, and car is much cheaper than othere countries. Good accommodation in Western-style hotels, air conditioning, deluxe hotel services and western food get you a expensive bill. Through out the country you can get good indian style hotels will provide accommodation at very reasonable(a fraction of what you pay in usa and europe)
cost. Some hotel price for only room so always read the quote.
Some hotels include meal and other services but many does not include these. The price quoted based on exchange rate.
you can can estimate expenses for two person as being roughly
10000-12000 Rs per day for luxary hotels accomodation. There are many hotels which charge much more than this. For sightseeing in a city you spend would be up to 2000 Rs or a little more or less. First class and Second class hotels are worth the money and usually centrally located, thus saving on transportation. Most of the resorts and hotels rate differ from time to time. The charge goes hight in season and low in off season. Most of the hotels charge 10-15% extra service.

car renting in india

it is practically imposible to rent a self-drive car in india. Hiring a car with driver is not expensive, especially for 3 to 5 person and can be arranged by any tour agent throung crosspondence or after your arrival. Smaller cars are available form 25 to 30 dollars(U.S)per day, included fule, driver and taxes also. Vehicals are mostly indian Ambassador, cello, qualish, sumo, tata indica, maruti esteem, indigo. Ambassador is quite good for three ro four person, cello is also for three or four. indigo is also in the same group. Qualish have very big one and good for six to eight person. NO one recommand self driving in india.
dear travellers if there is any problem to arange your own tour than ask me

A wise traveller always have some reserve days in case fo unexpected hold-ups or the impulse ot see more of a particular place. WE would most strongly advise that you do not try to work to a tight itineary. Take it easy and if you cannot see all of india in one trip(just impossible) come back agian, just as many do,to this fascinating land.

I don't know what you want to say, but I rather travel independently through India. It is not as hard as you say. In fact India is easy. I did it without any tour or hotelbooking via a travelagent. They ripp you off most of the time anyway. Except the Indian government tourist agencies. I am also not going to India to stay in 12.000 rupees hotels. That is for the Billionairs. I am just a simple traveller. Why renting a car? There are lots of busses and trains that are rockbottom cheap. Do you have a travelagency, John123go?
