Hi everyone,
im going to be in NZ this june or july and am planning to go to both islands. I am travelling on my own so was wondering what the best way to get around the whole of NZ is. I've been told the Kiwi experience is good for meeting people, what do most people do? Are there any other options?

Also, i am really wanting to do a sky dive and bungee jump, since its winter over there is this possible at that time of year? and if so does anyone know of some really good places to do them?

Any info would be appreciated. cheers guys.

You can bungee jump off the top of Sky City in Auckland. It's very disconcerting to see people flying by the windows when you're eating, though. Scared the life out of me!

A lot of people skydive at Taupo - it's pretty spectacular and comparatively dead cheap.

The biggest bungee jump is the Nevis Highwire - 440 feet - aargh, too much for me. If its too much for you too you could always go for the world's first commercial bungy, Kawarau Bridge. They are both near Queenstown.

The Kiwi bus is renowned for being very boozy, but if that's what you're after I'm sure it would be great - opinion tends to be rather divided on it whenever anybody asks. Alternatively you could use intercity buses, or rent/buy a car/camper - you will meet stacks of people in hostels anyway. Finally there are two rivals to Kiwi that are a little more 'sedate' - Magic and Stray.

And yes, you can both sky dive and bungy jump during winter there. Though sky diving can be delayed or cancelled due to crappy weather.

I was in Taupo in November 2005 and its $150 NZ to skydive there.
Thats the cheapest place you can do it apparently.

If i was travelling around New Zeland again i would probably hitch hike.We had a car when we went there and we met loads of people in hostels who were doing it so when we had room in the car we would offer them a lift.
Thanks to that i met some fantastic people and we have kept in contact since.

cheers everyone. had a look at that nevis highwire, bloody hell!! I got nervous just looking at it! i might have to see if i have the balls for it.

also had a look at all the tour bus possibilities, is it best to book before you get there or is it possible to book once you get there? I would rather leave it till i get there coz that way i dont have any contraints and can be open to a lot more then, like hitch hiking.

I cant wait to go, only another month then i wont see old blighty for 7 months!!

Taupo is a lot cheaper than everywhere else for the skydive.

You have to do it, its the best feeling in the world!
