look at accommodation for Lima,there are a lot of hostals.
Take one who is located in MIRAFLORES,
Miraflores is a safe region in Lima.I bookt there for my 3 trip to Lima at Hostal Armendariz,it is close to the Malecon(Promenade)
In Miraaflores you have nice and inexpensive restaurants,many antic shops.I'm also a women travelling alone and I feel safe walking there around.To go to the Center I take allways a taxi,ask for the price first should be no more then 2.50 US.

Thank you for your info. Do you know anything about Trujillo or Barranco? because i want to surf for a couple of days but i've read on the internet and in Lonely Planet that Trujillo is not safe for a woman travelling alone.

no,I have no Idee about Trujillo,Barranca has some good Seafoodplaces,but I have not been there.
Loneley planet is maybe right about the safty for a women allone.
I would go there to check out during the day,to get the feeling for the place.Check the hostales there and if you get the right vib,stay.
if you like seafood,try SEVICHE and CONCHAS CON PARMESAN!!

If you go as backpacker, try the ones Titan has mentioned. Definitely stay at Miraflores, or Barranco. DO NOT stay at downtown. It has beautiful places but is ugly and dangerous at late night.
If you look for budget hotels try Miraflores too, there are lot of options. marliz mentioned Armendariz, it's good.
Lima is not dangerous, it is the usual, like any big city. Of course if they realize you are foreign (are you very very white, blond?) they may ask you for higher prices, ask first at hotel about prices of food, stuff, etc. And take care of your camera, don't use jewels, etc. Take the typical care. But you can walk alone at night in Miraflores, Barranco, etc. It is safe.
Taxis are very informal, you set the price before taking it, so please ask at your hotel to know the price according to the distance/place you are going. Try not to take buses, specially if you don't speak spanish.
Trujillo is nice, very nice. They said it's a bit dangerous but I never have had any problem. I just came back from there 2 weeks ago.

Thank you all so much for the information. I'm from holland, tall and blond and travelling alone, so i want to be sure about facts which i think you understand.
Trujillo seems to be a little conservative so i think i will skipp it for this trip, maybe another holiday when i'm not travelling alone.
For now, it will be Lima-Miraflores and then i'll go to cusco to go on the incatrail for 4 days after that i think i will go back to Lima but i will stay in Barranco.
Still have to book my flight from Lima to Cusco, shall i do it from here or shall i book it in Lima. My spanish is not so good...

I also have family in trujillo, i can ask them for more information about the city. In trujillo you have the ruins of chan chan(huaca of sun and moon), beautiful beaches, fish meal, museums and 2 hour from there to chiclayo is the museum of Mr Sipan. Trujillo is very nice place, when i was in the university i used to travel alone by bus.
