We're two young women, going to new zealand and wondering if it's safe to hitch hike in new zealand... we've heard that it's quite safe. Does anyone have any experience hitch hiking over there?

I don't have any hitch-hiking experience in NZ, but it's a fairly friendly place, so normal rules apply. Stick together and check out any lifts before you get in the car.

I was in New Zealand in October and saw loads of people hitch hiking.
We had room in our car and picked up several people along the way and the people we met were fantastic.
You find in the hostels you get chatting to so many people and then find out who wants a lift so you get the chance to get to know them before hand.
