Has anyone applied for a Chinese Visa within the UK? From reading the Embassy website it seems you can apply in Edinburgh, Manchester & London. It also seems you cannot post your visa application rather applications must be in person. Now getting to my question - the apliciant ie ME do l have to attend the embassy myself to apply for the Visa or can someone do it for me ie my wee sister lives in Edinburgh therefore can she drop my passport and visa application off for me and collect or MUST l do this in person!

We got a really good deal for 9 days in Beijing for £620 flights & hotel from Belfast via Frankfurt but if l need to fly off to Edinburgh the like for 3 to 4 days waiting on a visa this may change my mind!

Chinese embassy has diferent visa fees depending on how fast you need the visa. Check it out from the website or by phone.

In India, to obtain a chinese visa, no need to appear in can get it through a travel agent.

I don't know what it's like in the UK, but in Canada and USA you can send your passport to a travel agency (not just any one, but one with links to the embassy) and they will do it all for you.

Check the internet to see if this applies in the UK too.

In the US does this travel agency place charge extra costs? I hate paying for something when l can do it cheaper myself!

I tried to ring the UK Chinese Embassy yesterday morning then realised they dont open for enquiries until 2pm DOH!! Still we are in London for a few days this week l may pop in and ask them in person!

Thanks for replies

hey there purdy
i'm heading out to china myself come end of april, i had the same problems as yourself about getting there in person. after a bit of hunting around i've found a few companies that will go down there for you. the cheapest one i found is thru it costs £50 for a single entry visa and that includes their admin charges, whereas you'd be paying £30 to head down there yourself
