Hey everyone,
I'm going to Australia this summer and I'm hoping to travel around most (if not all) of the country. Have any of you bought a pass with rail australia? Their backpacker pass seems like it's a really decent price but I couldn't find any information on the website about where this pass will go. any advice on how to get around and also where I should go to would be much appreciated

I hope you're going for a very long time! It will take a year or more to see 'most' of the country, even though there's not much in the middle of it!
Good luck

Where to go:

If you're a wine drinker take a Barossa Valley tour in South Australia
See the penguin parade at Phillip Island in Victoria.
Check out the Great Ocean Road in Victoria for awesome scenery.
Go to a sporting event :) AFL, cricket etc, especially in Melbourne, we are obsessed with anything involving a ball!
Check the beaches in bondi, new south wales
Sydney Harbour and Opera House in Sydney, New South Wales
Check out the Gold Coast and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland
Enjoy the beaches in Perth, Western Australia
Check out the outback in Northern Territory
Check out the awesome walking tracks in Tasmania :)

Hey guys,
thanks for the advice, it was much appreciated :) You're right Stevieh I won't get to see it all, I'm only going for 4 months :( but hopefully I can make the most of my time.
kacjp - I'm a veterinary student and I was hoping to volunteer with some veterinarians in Australia, and get some wildlife exposure, are there any zoos/wildlife rehabilitation centres that you know of and would recommend?
have either of you taken the railway in Australia? would you recommend it as a way to get from town to town?
talk to you later
