Anyone have any Greek Islands they would suggest travelling to? I have been to Paros and Samos, and they were both wonderful. I am thinking about Santorini, Naxos, Kos, and Rhodes. Any info on these, or other island suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm going to Greece in march and heard great things about santorini, but not sure there was a few messages for me on the tread: http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=19157
Crete could also be good, depends when you go. out of the tourist season i reckon it anywhere will be good, if lack of hoards of people is what you're looking for.

The Greek Islands are beautiful. Santorini is a must see, and I have also been to Mykonos, Rhodes, Navplion, and Gythion. Rhodes is also very high on my list. Wow, there is so much to tell you about these places! The culture, the food, the people, everything is fabulous about Greece! I worked on a cruise ship that sailed Turkey and the Greek Islands, it was lovely. If you've got any questions (since I don't even know where to begin) about the islands, feel free to message me, and hopefully I can help you out!

I went to Paros, Anitparos, Mykonos, Naxos, Crete, Santorini, Serifos and Milos. Naxos and Serifos were my least favourite and i think Santorini and Milos were the best. Its beautiful, we loved every minute, you should definately go to Santorini and give yourself a few days there, stay in Fira and take a bus to the beach rather than staying at the beach.

The thing about islands like Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes, Corfu is that are very touristy. I don't doubt that they are beautiful islands but they tend to be very expensive in my opinion due to their popularity.
If you are looking for more relaxed holidays and less expensive, can try less well know destinations like Leukada, Ithaki, Samothraki, Limnos, Lesbos, Chios, Ikaria (look on the map of Greece for more ...)

Hello,
I've been to Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Delos, Santorini, Kos, Rhodes and Simi.
Paros and Naxos seemed to be the least interesting to me.
Delos, tiny island, is like an open air museum (nobody lives there), is used to be a place where all the ships used to moor before heading for Athens, ruins of houses, shops, even of the house of Cleopatra and Ceasar!
?
Mykonos, really idyllic village, all in white and blue, narrow passages, pelicans entering the shops, good nightlife (popular with gay people), exept for the village there's nothing really to visit.
Santorini, impressive view entering the habour, black beaches!, the nightlife was that splendid that I didn't see much of the island
Kos: great!! lot to see and to do, strewn with ruins, great habour.
Rhodes : my favourite! the old village is superb!; ruins, castles, monastry's, butterflygarden, roman thermes, the acropolis at Lindos, beaches and of course, the sun (Rhodes is also called Helios), ... a must do indeed! And, while you're there, you should do an excursion to Simy, little island with a charming village and habour, especially the sight and feeling you get entering the habour you'll never forget!
If you want more details, send me a message,
Grz,

hey guys, I'm travelling to Greece 2 weeks later, staying in Crete for 7 days. We'r on a tight budget but I'd really love to visit the islands of my dreams yet fit them into our tight budget and schedule. We intend to take the overnite cruise to Piraeus to see Athens for a day (i know its not enuff, bt we wanna save $ on accomodation) and also excursions to Santorini and Mykonos. I've done some net-surfing and only found overnite cruises, that departs at 9pm and only arrive the nxt morning to Piraeus. Does anyone know of alternative transport? To Santorini, we intend to take the Hellenic Seaways cruise. But the schedules seem kinda rigid..we wanted to simply take a boat to Santorini early morning, and maybe hop on the boat to Mykonos and then back whenever we want to. But lookinga t the websites, that seems tuff..anyone knows the best way? Thanks bunch.

The Greek Islands were amazing - definitely do not miss Santorini - we were there for only five hours but it was so beautiful. The bus trip up the cliff is a bit scary (no guardrails!) But a must see. I would give Crete a miss - we went to Heraklion and actually went back to the boat early. But I did hear that there are nice beaches on the other side of the island - and I do regret not going on the tour to Knossos (legend of the Minotaur). All up, we went to Mykonos (definitely do not miss), Patmos (great for historical content - supposedly where Revelations was written - but could do it all in about 2 hours), Ephesus (Turkey) - this place was totally amazing - a must see definitely do not miss - I didn't really want to go there but it makes the Roman Forum not seem as fantastic, Rhodes - we were there for a day and ended up going to one of the beaches because there is not much to do in town, Crete - do not go to Heraklion, and Santorini - spend as much time here as you can.

I would recommend Chania in north-western Crete.
Great Venetian buildings, and hike the Samarian Gorge to the south.
Little Britain Gorgeous!!!
