having lived in france for nearly three years, i'm sorry to say that your article does not accord with my experience. no where else in the world have i entered a shop to hand deliver a letter to be looked at in horror by the owner or assistant as if i was about to hand her a bomb; or a doctor's surgery to be looked up and down by the receptionist as if i was dirt on her shoe; or been harangued by men whom i have met in a social setting - after hearing my english accent - because of my nationality.

i lived in the Czech Republic for 18 months not very long ago, have visited Germany at least twice a year for twenty years, and have visited dozens of countries in every other continent in the world with none of these experiences and - in most countries - not speaking a word of their language. i wouldn't call my french fluent, but it's pretty good.

i agree that there are polite and impolite people in every country in the world and i have some great french friends here, but i'm afraid that the proportion of the french who are - in my view - bloody rude merits the warning to beware.

so, in answer to the question "the rude french, myth or reality", in my view it's definitely reality.

Are the French people rude? Sure there are rude French people, just as there are rude people in every country.

So when Mojorob has finished dishing out unecessary insults and moderating perfectly good posts as He/She has done above, I'll try again.
As I said, before Mojorob hacked my post to pieces, living in the UK as an Asian brings out rudeness in people. I've never seen such an anti-Asian country as the UK.
Now if that is classed as racist, as Mojorob considers it to be, then obviously He/She has no UK experience. It was just a guide for people from overseas to let them know that the UK has an extremely high proportion of population that dislike Asian people to the maximum. To call me a racist, as He/She has on a private message is like calling The Pope a non-catholic.
If that's racist, as Mojorob insists it is - and I am, and Travellerspoint won't let it be re-posted and viewed, then his snip is a sad day for Travellerspoint.
I am probably one of the most anti-racist humans on the planet.

For someone who spends most of his time working and traveling all over the planet, you'd be having a pretty hard time if you were actually a racist. Trouble is, it scares some people who just don't know how to deal with other people talking about it openly. Just inexperience doing its thing and making matters worse, eh?

Anyway - talk later when things are hopefully ironed out. Best of luck. ;)

BedouinLeo, I really feel that you have blown this well out of proportion. The PM I sent you was this:

I've moderated your latest entry in this forum thread by deleting the following:

-deleted text from thread was included in PM-

The reason I've done this is because the above can be taken to be inflammatory in a racist way, and has the potential of really taking the thread off-topic. Hope you understand why I did this.

I felt that the way you put what you wrote (in Post 62) could be taken in a bad way, and had the potential of sending things in this thread in a direction that wouldn't be helpful. I didn't say you are racist, nor did I say what you wrote was racist - I said that it could be taken in such a way.

I tried to explain why I did this in a private message, and would have happily clarified if necessary. However you decided instead to make several new posts on this thread about it, and also begin a new thread about me.

Perhaps I was being over-cautious by moderating your post, however I was attempting to communicate with you about it in a respectful and appropriate way.

I've removed the personal attacks from this thread and the other. If anyone has a problem with a moderator's decision please feel free to send me a PM. Do NOT start attacking people on the forums, moderators or not. We simply don't tolerate this. Most of us like to hang out in friendly places, and aim to keep these forums that.

Any more posts on this topic in this thread will be deleted as it's totally off topic.
