I am planning to travel with my friends from Kerala to DELHI (4 days) --> SIMLA (2 days) --> Jaipur (2 days) --> AGRA (1 day) ---> Delhi.

Could any body help me make a travel program, and inform me the best mode of travel whether by Train / bus / taxi. Is the days mentioned enough to see these places. Is there any other palce enroute that i can visit. we are on a budget travel. but expect to have a good and decent accomodation.

I would be in Delhi on the 19th March 2006 and from there i wish to start my travel program

I would be highly thankful

Delhi to Simla can be travelled by train/bus.
If you can manage train reservations esp Shatabdis, nothing like it. Mind you Delhi-Simla is a long tiresome journey. If you choose bus, choose DTC buses only over others as they take fewer stops and are generally fast. UP buses are notoriously slow. Same for Agra where you should try Shatabdi/Taj Express if you plan to return in 1 day. Don't even think of buses.
Buses to Jaipur are good quite fast and many trips per day to suit your schedule.
One of the budget hotels I liked in Delhi was 'Chanakya Hotel' in Paharganj. Nothing great but not bad. There are many such hotels in Paharganj. Also lot of restaurants there, even south Indian ones. Do not try posh areas, they will cost you a lot. Also Paharganj is near to N.Delhi rly station. Rail Yatri Nivas is expensive though convinient. In Jaipur, 'Arya Lodge' though sounding not so good is a good hotel.

HI dear,
that is nice if you go to Shimla via train, i think that will be more comfortable for you. you will be reaching from Delhi to Kalka (normally by train it will take 4-5 hours), From Kalka to shimla (normally it takes 6 hours) you will have to change your train, from kalka to shimla the railway track is narrow. you can make urs reservation that's the best idea i can suggest for you.

I think your schedule is perfect. With the exception of Simla, that is the EXACT itinerary I took with the same amount of time at each place. I was travelling with a friend, and we decided to hire a driver. It was easy and not that expensive (compared to doing the same thing in other countries). I don't remember what we paid exactly, though it was cheaper than a tour would be.
