I will be in Chile at the end of March and would like to drive from Santigo to Mendoza.

Have any on the members driven this route before?

Any tips?

At the end of march, you shouldn't expect the border to be closed by snow. My first advise is, do it by day, nights are very cool, and probably you don't want to an hour in the customs with your nose freezing. On the other hand, landscapes worth it.

To go Chile - Argentina is not a big deal, but if you plan to come back by the same route, remember not to bring anything edible, like fruits or other kinds of fresh food. Customs officers are really feroucious about that because of Fruit Fly and HFMD (a cattle disease)and you could be punished with more than USD $500 just by carrying an apple in your pocket.

I drove from Santiago to Buenos Aires once and recomend the drive to Mendoza. The pass through the Andes is spectacular and each stage of the landscape is unique. The Argentine side feels as if you have crossed in to a Martian landscape until you reach the more fertile areas of the valley where Mendoza is situated. Facilities at the border are not climate controlled and good warm clothes (as was already suggested) are good to have when they have you standing in line.
