Is it possible to withdraw money from ATMs (on the Cirrus network, for example)in China, specifically in Beijing and Shanghai. I've done it most other places in the world, but never been to China and will visit in April. Thanks.

I haven't been to Beijing, but I was in Shanghai in February and didn't have any problem withdrawing money with my Cirrus card. My guide book said there weren't many ATMs to be found but they were always there when I needed them.
I was able to withdraw in Beijing from ATMs, and I have a PLUS card. (So both CIRRUS and PLUS covered, it seems).
In Beijing, ATMs weren't plentiful like they are in other places, but they are around.

When I was in Beijing last year, the one bank I went to did not accpet my debitcard which has Maestro and Cirrus alligned to it. From the same ATM, I was able to use my creditcard to do a cash advance withdrawing my own money, which was alligned to mastercard. It might just have been my card as well, because it did have on the atm the logos displayed which means it accepts Maestro and Cirrus, but no luck using my card. Strangely enough I didn't have another problem thorughout the other 26 countries I visited when it came to ATM's accepting my card.
Yes, you can in both (and across China) BUT not at all banks, even ones showing the symbol. Bank of China always works, and are plentiful, whereas Construction bank of china and agricultural bank of China seem allot more hit and miss and often don't work.
Oddly, American issued cards seem to be refused more often, but my European ones have been declined on occassions as well.
