I need help finding cheap hostels and/or hotels in Pisa and Florence. I'm going to be backpacking for two and a half months through Europe and need to find cheap accommadation in both of these cities in April. The cheapest place I've found in Pisa is the Camping Village Torre Pendente, but I'm not sure how good/clean of a place it is. Also, I haven't found any cheap places in Florence. Anyone know of any good places?? Please help! Thanks.

Well it all depends on what you class as cheap. No place I know of is really cheap in Italy, it is one of the more expensive countries I have been throughout the world. Some reasonably cheap ones in Florence are Ostella Villa Camerata which says it is only open to HI Members. One a little bit more is Ostella Archi Rossi. Another couple are Ostella Santa Monica and also Youth Residence Firenze 2000. Those all are about the same price give or take 1.00 Euro. I stayed at two seperate hostels while I was in Florence, one was the Ostella Archi Rossi which was reasonable (good location), the other was the Ostella Santa Monica. If you have to get an early train (before 6.30am) forget about staying there, it is a long way from the train station and reception doesn't open until 6.00 am (as at 26 May 05). The staff were not particularly nice at that hostel either. The Santa Monica one was 4 Euros cheaper a night than the other one I stayed at when I was there last year, but you get what you pay for! Rooms were reasonable, but staff were really bad.

In Pisa, the only place I can see mentioned that is cheap by italian standards is Ostella per la Gioventu, but really unless you are desperate, why would you want to stay in Pisa. All it has is the leanine tower and that is the most overpriced entrance fee to any tourist attraction I have ever been to. Florence is not a particularly long train ride from Pisa, so you could always do a day trip from Florence.

Have a great trip.

Thanks for the feedback. I know there isn't much in Pisa that's why I'm only there one night and that's because I fly in at 11:00pm. As for Florence, I'll be there for several days. I'll search for your recommendations and see if they work for me. Thanks again!!
