Travel Forums Europe TRAIN TROUBLE!

I have been researching train travel between Calabria and Scilly. But cant seem to find information on some things...can anyone help?

Does anyone know if we can catch a train from Reggio Calabria Airport straight to Messina (or better still - to Catania)?

Is there is a train station close to the airport at Reggio Calabria? If so what is the name of this station?

If there is no train station close to the airport at Reggio Calabria is there a cheap effective way to travel from the airport to the Reggio Calabria Port (by that I mean the boat that will take us to Sicily)? How long will that journey take?

Finally, does anyone know if it is fairly easy to travel from Messina to Catania? Is the train the best option?

any reply would be helpful!

in trenitalia web site you've to search "reggio di calabria" . I searched the itinerary for you, but I admit that is not clear. Looks like there should be a central station and a station close to the harbour of the city, but no railways connection between each other, which sounds me strange (but not impossible).
in any case you've to take a ferry to cross the channel.(the train should enter in the ferry)

here you can read some information about the airport connections with the city.
I haven't been personally, so I can't tell you anything more detailed.

p.s. "volobus" looks like a private company, ATAM looks like the public trasport company of the area, but I'm not sure. Check, because it could be a difference in price ticket.

from Messina MAR (marittima, the station close to the harbour) to catania the journey last from 1hour 30 to 2 hours, depending on the train, sometimes you've to change train in Messina Centrale (the central station.)
