Hey guys some of you may remember that Im off to Ecuador this August, Im going to stay with a small tribe called the Payamino who are, at the moment, finding it hard to sustain their small community and stave off the massive oil corporations that want to buy their land-which is primary rainforest and home to a massive and diverse range of plants and animals.

Payamino project

What I really need is some bright ideas for fundraising events or sponsorship as I've just been appointed Manchester university's fundraising coordinator.

Thanks my lovelies!!!

Heyyyyyy!Im actually knee deep in fundraising at University at the moment as my course has to raise £20,000 for Graduate Fashion Week this coming june!!!Would you believe just one plug hole costs £40!!!!
Its been an ongoing process over the past three years but weve thrown loads of events and things and have made a lot of money!
One of our biggest earners is to hire out the student union bar and on campus club...we dont have to pay for this and they allow us to use it once a month! We throw themed parties, so far we have had: Regular Playboy Bunny nights, a Players and Pimps night, Moulin Rouge, Sleepover Party with alcoholic hot chocolate, Footballers Wives.....
The Uni is very supportive so they allow us to keep all the profits so we usually charge £3.50 on the door and then do little extras such as sell raffle tickets, auction off things, put on a cloakroom service so its all extra money!!the students union allowed us to also bring in some of our own alcohol so we all dressed up as tequila girls and made some extra money that way!We begged the course leader and he donated £100 for alcohol so we made a lot of money!!!We also all dressed up as Moulin Rouge Girls and auctioned ourselves off for the night!!!!People are always up for these kind of things especially if its a good cause and achance to get drunk, so whip yourselves up some costumes, print off a load of flyers, whack some posters up and let the good times roll!!!Get onto the SU bar and your student president and see what they can rustle up!!!
Other things we have done is a weekly cake sale, we just set up a little stall and take it in turns to make cakes and biscuits and people always want a break from the old canteen!Weve all raided our cupboards and held a few car boot sales in the local area as well as a couple of jumble sales on campus!
What we did was send a load of letters stating what we were doing and sent them to local businesses to see if they were willing to donate any items that we could use for raffles and prizes....Tesco kindly donated a couple of huge hampers and Toni and Guy also donated a huge hamper of hair products as well as a free hair cut so we raffled of a load of tickets and dished out the prizes!!
Another thing to do is contact some of the more powerful members of the Uni, they have a lot of money hanging around that they tend to keep quiet and we managed to get the director to offer to match whatever we fundraise!Get yourself involved in the Uni magazine or get them to do a piece on your project and see what comes of that and its always good publicity for any events that you throw!!!
Other things are sponsorship deals, many local buisnesses are happy to offer some money and of course you can hold your own things such as a sponsored run, or sponsored pub crawl or whatever!!!We did a sponsored Pancake Making session....we got a load of people to sponsor us then sold the pancakes as we made them on campus!!!!!
Hope this helps!I know what a nightmare it can be to try and fundraise but it can be great fun at the same time if you do some interesting stuff!I wish you the best of luck!

Just another thought....dont know if you have considered this but have you thought about asking "The Princes Trust" for help?I know a few people who have got some good results, they have helped out with everything from private projects to young business enterprises! So you might want to look into that!

cheers emma, your suggestions have been more than helpful!
I am however restricted by time at the moment so long well planned events are kind of out of the question!! Im looking for the quick fix ;)

cake sales, alcohol and raffles are a definite!

If you come up with anything else I'd be really appreciative :)

And if any other tpers can toss some ideas into the suggestions bucket that'd be great
