I was wondering if anyone knows if Cancun is a safr place to go all by yourself if you are a woman, 19 years old?

I also was wondering if there are a lot of hurricanes during the beginning of july and if it only will rain during that time?

One final question: Has anyone stayed at the hostel chahmool in cancun??

Cancun is a pretty touristic place, fairly safe since there are loads of tourists from all over...July is raining season, but if you're still going to the Yucatan Peninsula during that time, I would recommend taking the ferry over to Isla Mujeres from the Gran Puerto Juarez for 350 pesos, and if you want a cheap place to stay, I recommend the simple, but clean rooms at Posada Isla's only 200 pesos/night, maybe even cheaper during off season, cheap coffee, but very good coffee for 100 pesos @ Mananas and cheap Breakfast (ie: Huevos Mexicana for 200 pesos) @ Loncheria Puc Choc.

I didn't really like Cancun nor Playa Del Carmen, but Tulum and Isla Mujeres is worthwhile.

Email me if you want more details...

Actually the rainy season starts in may, and officially ends end of oct, but you never know for it is changing all over the world...

but anyway, July is very hot and nice, normally (as it is our summer time), you have sunny days lovely ones, but sometimes rainy after(noons, that sometimes cools the air and you may have splendid nights, or not rain at all and lots of beach parties. But definitely september is really rainy, so you have 2 months before of splendid weather, but also remember it was very odd to have Emily hurricane right on our 17th of july right in the middle of this month, by the way 1hr before the hurricane started, we had a lovely sky and sunny afternoon (until almost 8.40pm!!)..

Wow 200 pesos for a breakfast that is too much! not even in luxurious places, it may have been 20 pesos only... (maybe)

Playa del Carmen is lovely (I live here and it is just as nice as it can be)

Cancun is very noisy and full of party places, plenty of things to do, lots of shopping, discos.

Isla Mujeres is lovely too. Quiet and nice, small and very safe too.

all these places are very safe, and yes as these are touristic places, all the people are very well taken care of.

You will be surprised to see how many people come alone. Men and women I did that and I was afraid inthe beginning, after a couple of days i found myself surrounded by lots of girls who came as i did, and here I am after 20 years still here...

riviera (hotel association)

Hi, I have been in July in Cancun. The only thing is that is very hot. There is a lot to visit/do around there.
It shouldn´t be a problem to go if you are that age, but take care.
I don´t know the place that you mention. If you want to go somewhere cheap, go to a downtown hotel.

The men are very aggresive in their advances in Cancun, but really not any more than the rest of Mexico. The only difference is that in Cancun you have to ward off advances from Mexicans AND the tourists. Mexicans are great dancers, but they think they own you after 2 minutes of dancing and start licking your neck. Just be ready to say "no" a lot. Other than that it's a pretty safe place.

I think common sense is what you need here, yes you come to one of the safest places in the world, but that does not mean you accept anyone, or you let anybody touch you or kiss you or have aggressive advances... that in fact happens all over the world but it is up to you and nobody but you who should or should not accept anything. A drunk person is a drunk person all over the world.

I think the hottest months in this area arent worse than late may, early July, mid July is really the best, and water, people, parties, cant be better than those starting mid July through all August.

It all depends what you are up to, but remember here you will find a lot of people from all over the world, and you are the party, now there is plenty to see and do, it is up to you what you are looking for and what you are up to.

You can find nice Mexicans and ugly ones, nice Americans and ugly nasty ones, etc.,

Also check for cool places, not cheap places.

You can also find good deals for cheap hotels along the hotel zone. not only downtown, if you check the sectur site, you will see.
good luck:)

yes! there is a youth hostel INTERNATIONAL HOSTEL i thinkis the name
right downtown
the directions are

Ave. Yaxchilan on the corner with UXMAL Avenue

it is very very centric, safe and cheap lots of good places to eat
plenty of food, plenty to do, and if you dont like it, just take the bus... 2 blocks... and get to the hotel zone 10 min from there.

Actually right on the corner of this place, there is one of the best places to eat. they have great prices, full breakfast for less than 3 dollars, complete dinner for 4 or 5 dollars. excellent fruits and juices, all natural, great pozole and mexican dishes.

it is worth trying.
