I have been told that me and my friend will need an invitation but we can get the visa at the airport.

Just wondering if anybody knows how to get an invitation as I have no idea about this.

And if anybody can recommend some accommodation options in Chisinau that would be great.

I see you are Aussie. If you live in a big city, check out any shops catering specifically to Russians and other east european nations. Often they have a visa service for all of the former Soviet republics.

I live in Germany and in my home town there is a shop like this within walking distance of my home. If I were to go to Moldavia, I would simply drop my passport off there and pick it up a 2-3 weeks later. I would also ask them to arrange all travel details for me, since they are experts in booking the cheapest ways of transport to there. (I took a bus ride to Kiev, and the fare was 120 EUR return for over 2000 km.)

I don't know where you are now, but if you plan to go, basing yourself in Germany or the Ukraine seems to be a good idea for a trip to Moldavia.

I did some more digging on the 'net, and from the information I found on the german website of the Republik of Moldavia, everybody but citizens of Russia, Poland and Romania needs a visa. For that you need:

a) Passport (b) 1 Photo (c) application form. (d) invitation (not necassary for citizens of EU-countries, Switzerland, USA, Canada, Norway and Israel). (e) visa fee or reciept of paid visa fee (f) return envelope with paid postage and address.

So you and your friend have to use a visa agency. came up first on google.
