...Just got a Jap B vaccine... my bank account is in more pain than my arm though!

I ended up going to a private travel clinic, and I can't help but feel I'm being 'sold' all this stuff I don't really need. The information seems to be conflicting with what my doctor told me, and I neither want to spend more than I have to or take any stupid risks.

Any opinions on whether Rabies vaccination is really necessary for people who won't be in regular contact ith animals? We'll in in areas where the virus exists, but I just don't think we'll be going rural enough to warrant paying £120 for the vaccs.

I'm confuddled...

The whole rabies thing is personal choice I guess...I chose to have it in the end...just a tip...Asda pharmacy sell the package of 3 rabies vaccines for onl £86...that was the cheapest I found it for, you will need to get a prescription from your doctor first!

Its carried by domestic cats and dogs and wild animals so knowing where to go and where not to go to avoid it is tricky. And it can kill you. Take the shot.

I went to the doctors for a prescription and my pharmacy ordered it in the same day for me for £6.50 (the price of a normal presciption).
I hope this helps. :)

For Rabies? The set of three? That's very strange, as it's only available on private prescription and can cost upwards of £100. Can you give us some more info about how you managed to get it so cheaply?

Thanks :)

Yes, the nurse at my local GP gave me all the jabs I needed but they don't have the Rabies one so she gave me the presciption and I just went to the pharmacy and they ordered it for me! Maybe you should ask your GP.

This can't be in the UK.

You can't have paid JUST £6.50 for ALL THREE rabies jabs.

For some reason i was told i'd need rabies jabs to go to chile cos i was working with little kids. I'm afraid i can't remember how much i paid for the three doses i had but i got it done at the nomad clinic in bristol which is part of some sta travels so don't know if there's one near you, but it was considerably cheaper getting it done there than it would have been at my local surgery.
