Hi all! I'm new here...looking for general advice about England, especially London.

I have dreams of living in London this summer but I hear that it is wayyy to expensive :(.

Any BUNAC graduates here?

Hi Mary!

I think there are a few BUNAC graduates here actually.... a search through the forum threads might help as I remember seeing one or two threads started :) I used to work for one of BUNACs partners down in Australia, so not much help on their UK front.

London might be expensive, but the salaries are generally higher too. As long as you have a job of some sort, you should be ok I would suppose and I hear work isn't too hard to find. Then again, summer is most likely the toughest time to find temp work .... in Australia it always was/is.

A resident UK-er might be able to help more :)

Hallo . . . In the summer you will be up against all the other students looking for temporary work, but it is also the time when agencies require more staff, because us brits are going on our hols. Plus because it is a time when lots of tourists visit, there will also be an increase in the number of hospitality jobs, eg waitressing, bar work etc . . . .so i think you will probably be ok. May be worth though contacting agencies now, and start promoting yourself and your CV.

With regard to living in London, yes it can be expensive but there are plenty of students and low earners already living in the city so there are also cheap rents and cheap places to eat.

My stepdaughter graduates from uni this year and is intending to live in London this summer, working in a voluntary capacity to help bump start her career and find a bar job to pay rent and other living costs . . . so if she can do it on minimal pay, I am confident you will be ok and do really well!!

Good luck!
