I would say going around now would be the cheapest, because were heading into their winter and our summer so its for sure the low season. At first when I decided on my backpacking adventure to Oz, every single person I told said that I was "crazy" and that they could never do it, but then when I started hanging out with people who travel, and started traveling around and staying in hostels in the country that I live (canada) I realized how normal it really is to go alone, I heard a statistic the other day that 80% of backpackers are independent, I dont know if thats actually true but it wouldnt surprise me. I personally wouldnt want to go with someone else because then you have to do everything they want to do and always take them into consideration, and trust me traveling with other people is very irritating, by the end of a couple days you want to stab them for everything they do, hahaha. I would much rather be able to do whatever I want do to, honestly in the last hostel I was in (I assume you will be in hostels) I would read alone for 3 or 4 minutes before someone approached me to play pool, play games/cards, have a drink, anything really, before I knew it I was making friends from all over the world and getting invited out to the pub, then with different groups to go backpacking with them!! You are going to have a blast I promise.

hey there

hows the craic? Im heading to Oz in June for the year. Im in the same situation - bout a month ago i was supposed to go to Oz with my one of my best buddies n he opted out n nerves got to him to head to Oz n stay in rain soaked, dreary Ireland. I was like your self n freaked for abouts a week n decided- sure feck it ill do it alone n not live with major regrets if i did nt travel over because of one person. Although im scared, excited, nervous n all the rest..... I know that i would have more of wicked time over then staying in Cork-- Your definately doing the right thing, ull have a blast n wont regret it. Some ppl freaked when i told them im doing it solo but sure most of them are just jealous n tied to home, n its my decision. Loads of people are in the same boat as ya- you can decide what you want to do, when you want n freedom to do anything you like and meet tons of people on my travels. Your not tied to anyone or in Irish's case down to bondi/kydoni beaches in Sydney - for one year of complete piss up there.

Hope this helps ya... Hope im not foward but if you want to drop me a line to say when your heading over, maybe could meet up over.

Go, definetely go!!

I left my boyfriend at home, he didn't want to go travelling with me and he was so miserable here at home he decided to meet me in Vietnam two months later...

But what I really wanted to tell you: When I was travelling alone, I met a guy who was in exactly the same situation as you (only they had been together for five years and lived together for three...) She broke up with him, and he had a fantastic time. But he was sick of Dublin, needed to get away and stuff. Now, two and a half years later he's still living in Ho Chi Minh City where I left him. You never know what's gonna happen if you go, but you know nothing will happen if you don't go!

Hey all

I'm in a similar situation. Was supposed to be going with my boyfriend around October but we broke up 3 weeks ago so I'm just going to go by myself in July or August instead as none of my friends want to go. Absolutely bricking it but excited as well. I'm a 24 year old girl from Cork. Would love to hear from anyone at all thinking of going around the same time...
