You raised an interesting question. I've been to Australia four times and must admit the second time wasn't as "exciting" as the first. This is true not just for Australia, but also for most places I've traveled to. Perhaps a "travel psychologist" may have a better explanation to this. My guess is it's not unusual for travelers to have this experience for one or more of these possible reasons:

1. Almost every thing is more intriguing the first time.

2. The city/town may have changed but your first impression has not. The new ambient and atmosphere associated with the new changes may not fit your "taste".

3.You may have a different expectation the second time around based on your first experience.

I remember I couldn't repeat the "first feeling" I had for Geneva after moving there for my temporary appointment at CERN. Also I guess things look differently with different mind settings,i.e., being a tourist vs. a resident. But if the place has a lot to offer (of the things you love), re-discovery can be just as exciting and even rewarding. To this point, I would prefer New Zealand (minus Auckland - yuck!) over Ozland.

Thanks everyone for your posts.

The reason why i asked this question was because i had such a great time the first time i think it would be hard to even it or beat it.

There are places i want to re-visit due to my first experiences, and therefore may be disappointed when expectations are not met. Im also trying to move away from that opinion and give everything a fair re-trial.

Trailbound you have certainly raised some good questions along with some good answers. The 'first time' i didnt even venture into New Zealand and was quite miffed when i got back home. So definitely this time it will be different. Theres also places in australia i havent done.

I love the real Assies, especially the girls.

here i come Asstralia
